View Full Version : What brakes?

One major thing that lets my car down is the brakes, they will get some quite heavy use on the way to and from work (I go on the backroads 95% of the way)
Again because of insurance, even though it would aid the safety of my car they will not let me fit a BBK and to be honest I wouldnt want to pay out that much on this car anyway, I'm holding out til I'm 21 and get a quicker motor before taking the mods to that level so for the time being I simply want to upgrade to some fast road pads and some grooved/drilled rotors, what manufacturers would you recommend?
There is so much choice out there and it all depends upon your budget. Pads wise though I have always tended to stick to Pagid Fast Road Pads and they are have by far been the best I have used to date.
As for discs, Zimmerman, Brembo and Black Diamond are but a few of the discs I have run on previous cars and they have all worked well with the Pagid Pads.

Question number 2. :D
If I have to choose between the two, what are the advantages and disadvantages of each, grooved or drilled?

Upgrade the pads or maybe look for some cheaper/used AMGkits... surely the are the same on the C- CLK-SLK AMGs..
Drilled look better - Grooved/slotted are more effective... (supposedly)
You're gonna be down to one-liner posts as soon as you're 21... ;)

with the pagid pads, I'm heard quite a few people mention these now, just been on a website to get a better idea on them but haven't got a clue which to opt for. If it helps, the majority of my driving is commuting on the B roads and its not uncommon that I have a play on the way home, which pad material would you look towards?

from all my research and readings on brakes etc, slotted brake discs are more effective in disappating heat under track conditions... but certainly for fast road antics, cross-drilled discs are fine.

hey Tilly !
we suggest and recommend Stoptech stage 2 upgrade kit at about £600 ( must check) consisting of :
- 4 x slotted discs ( forget drilled, they do nothing for braking performance AT ALL and are , imo , cliche now :)
- Axxis ultimate pads
- Steel brake lines
- 5.1 fluid
Totally worth the money
best of luck either way
