Broke a wheel stud the other day
Obviously don't know my own strength when it comes to tightening things
anyway cant get to it with grips as its right inside Hub
Anyone done this before?
If it going to cost an arm and a leg to remove it?
Will it be safe with just 4 studs?
Great way to end the holiday

Pete,
Have you tried contacting a couple of garages to see if they can do anything, i would think having 4 good stud's in would be ok to get you to a garage.
otherwise you could try these (http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/3-18mm-5-PIECE-SCREW-BOLT-EXTRACTOR-REMOVER-SET_W0QQitemZ4468121081QQcategoryZ303QQrdZ1QQcmdZV iewItem)

4 good studs will be ok as a short term solution. Longer term, either take it to a garage who will have a stud extractor kit. If there is no joy here, what I have seen done before is welding a nut on top of the stud, then using a spanner to extract it
Alternatively, you can DIY it i fyou have the right tools. Buy a stud extractor kit from halfords, drill it into the centre of the stud you can see and remove as required.
Final stage in any of this is to invest in a torque wrench :)

Had this happen to me a year or so ago when I went to my local Tyre Dealer for new shoes. The nut had been overtightened and rounded  after 30 mins they gave up and recommended a local garage that had been successful with a couple of similar cases in the past. End result was after forty minutes of drilling/chiselling taking great care not to damage the hub thread and alloy they eventually had it out ;) , cost me about 40 notes IIRC.
Good luck.

had this happen to me on my e30
and as you aware e30 only got 4 stud so no option but to take
out.
used to be engineer had loads of these probs
what you need is to drill as much out of centre as poss
then get dot punch and hammer and knock slowly the way thread undoes
using plenty wd40 aswell.should come out

Mmmm costly mistake on my side
May try ones of those tools first tho
