View Full Version : E46 SMG gear-knob
Does your gear-knob light up with the rest of your illuminations (dash etc)....?
am pretty certain mine doesn't, unlike the SMG gearknobs i have seen in the E60 M5 and M6 with SMG3... also i have read that you can swap them with the SMG 3 gear knobs and add the "SMG" lettering too - anyone done that here yet? :D

the SMG II knobs dnt light up !!! the SMG III knob in the M5 and M6 feels a bit wierd when shifting up or down.
I prefer this knob. THE SMG II one that is !! LOL !!!
Tariq im sure my mates car did have the EB boot and handbrake gaitor, as i remember commenting upon it !!! and he doesn't do modding , he bought the car like that.

The SMG III one looks more sculpted tho...and looks sweet lit up at night - but not sure if you could get the lights to work if the SMGII one doesn't have the wiring...
I dont use the knob for shifting i use the paddles :D

If you could find out for sure raj, and maybe even get me a pic i'll email it to my dealer and get them to explain as I am told that there were only 50 of these cars all built by bmw uk to their spec and only dealers were allowed to add options (most of which were ACS options and/or SMG)... so except for personal mods, they should in theory all be identical :)
that would be really helpful mate

Tariq, AFAIK all M3s come pre-wired for the manual illuminated gearstick, including SMG cars. The wires and plug are tucked inside and under your gear console.
This is going to look so good on your car :D Part no. 25-16-2-282-750 ;)

Damn I have lost the E60 M5 VIN number which I used for my M5 wheels, i just need to check with my dealer if he can use a showroom 'M' model to order this part for me ... [jam

You wouldn't need an M5 VIN no. for this. Nobody would have thought it would go on anywhere other than the M5/M6.

you definitly wont need the vin no. to order one. i looked in to this a few months ago when i saw it on a US forum. i think my dealer wanted £125 for it,and said it would take 2 weeks to arrive because at the time it wasent a uk stock part
thanks guys, that will make life easier
unfortunately work keeps getting in the way of my mods  :D
