i know you are all probably sick of seeing these posts about LED rear lights, but.... me and a mate are after them

my car is a 2002 330CI and his is a 2002 M3 replica. we both have the normal rear lights and both want the LED type.

no i have seen a few sets on ebay etc, but you just know some of them are gonna be dodgy. some have led sidelights and brakelights, and a standard indicator which look poo, and then there is some crown bmtown.com selling some ones which look very very real.

i was reading in this months PBMW about the guy with the White CSL rep that he has DEPO lights in his, and they really look the part. best part is he said they cost about 300Euro's which is great! also the Depo units dont need you to have your ECU flashed or anything, so to cut a long story short:

1) has anyone here performed this mod, and
2) where should i get the lights from, and what sort of money for the 2 of us?

thanks in advance

Ross

Hi both myself and a freind have done this mod.On mine i had to buy a new light control switch as i have a 2001 model. This cost £150 from the stealer  The lights themselves were gen bmw second hand which i picked up for a snip :D .Stealer fitted new control switch and recoded for free :D :D :D .Fully working and look the dogs B.Freind had a 2002 car which already had correct switch so he bought the lights new£320 :( and the stealer charged him £30 to code it.His are also fully working. Does depend on how helpful the stealer wants to be some will claim it carnt be done others in the parts dept said you carnt get the lights  .IT can and looks better than any of the aftermarket ones in my opinion.Hope this helps.

wow - thanks for the help!

you say you got genuine BMW ones for a snip - care to share how / where yo got them? i would love the genuine article, but cannot justify spending £320 on them!

Just dropped lucky on ebay only payed £100.You may also get them a bit cheaper than £300 if someone got duped and bought gen ones for a 2001 or older and was not told about the lcm and does not want to spend the money for a new switch.

DEPO/FK ones are about 180-200 new per set and do not require ecu reflash at all. plug n play. IMO, DEPO ones are the best replicas out at the mo. Just give Teddy a ring and he will get u a set.

Definietly would agree with Mitsu, but if you can afford to save up and get OEM ones then do it as they are just one of thee best mods. And if you get an OEM kit from the dealer it will include the updated reverse/fog units as well, completely transforming the rear end (if you haven't already got them).

Just save up and buy OEM, put a car with depo ones next to an oem setup and you can tell the difference straight away. OEM is just so much brighter even though they look the same.

Matt :D

If you do go for ebay, remember coupe and vert ones are shaped very slightly different so make sure you get the right ones. [ok
