Thoughts / discuss....

from pistonheads.....

"If ever there was a car with the gravitas to carry off a special edition without having to go to the trouble of actually naming it, the BMW M3 is it. Now, with the new M3 Edition, BMW is testing that theory.

Rarity will be assured, with BMW producing the M3 Edition for just six months. Those hoping for a bit more go from the M3 will be disappointed, though, as the M3 Edition gets strictly cosmetic tweaks.

Most noticeable are the forged 19-inch double-spoke alloys, especially finished in the optional black, while the suspension has been dropped by 10mm. Other exterior tweaks include the kidney grille, side gills and exhaust tips finished in dark chrome.

Choose Alpine White or black (Dakar yellow and Monte Carlo blue are also available), and the centre console and door armrest leather is finished in the same colour as the exterior paintwork.

Other tweaks to the interior include kickplates with a chequered flag design, and twin vertical stripes on the front of the leg rest and upper part of the back rest of the front seats.

BMW has not released details of the M3 Edition's price.

Depends if its working out cheaper than doing those mods third party. The kidneys and black alloys are nice mods, thats why all modders do them more or less on AW cars.. but if BMW charge like 6k for the privilege then why not just by a standard E92 and do it yourself?

Its not like the CSL which had the engine work / weight saving etc and therefore is still so much more desirable used...

My point is, its appealing to a modding community, as joe public won't see the point in the extra kit.. But the modding community would rather mod the car themselves! For the extra individuality and probably lower costs involved.

So in short, "Meh" - Although I wouldn't turn down the keys for one thats for sure :D

Dave my thoughts exactly. Really should have been a stripped out version IMO. Maybe they will do one!

I think the special william F1 edition they brought out for the E46 M3 was more special!

I think it looks nice, though I wonder how much more it will cost over a base model, and would it be financially worth it because doing those mods yourself would be pretty easy, it's hardly a CSL is it!

E92 would look great in Dakar Yellow..

On 2nd thoughts, is this a way of getting rid of unsold & underlivered stock?

All the "tweaks" could be performed on cars already built, with new build ones for individual colour specs?

Shame there's no apparent body modifications.

Just a thought.

Surely just a marketing gimmick to shift more M3's? They stick some new wheels on and a few other bit's and bob's and get a better return from the production lines.

That's utter crap imo......

Spend about £1k on those bits and you have the same car to a std e92 m3

Sorry to the lovers of this;) ;)

Any of us can slap on a few mods, but to get BMW warranty on this stuff is a bonus. Wheels and grill I want....

I agree with it isn't much, but there will still be a market for them, especially if the V5 states Edition. The common bod, with cash, wouldn't mod an M3 anyway, so to them it is a nice individual car (especially in one of the more individual colours).

Interesting but with a little more tweaking they would have done a lot better.
