Evening all, just a little E36 question.
I got my new car a little back and it's got a REALLY annoying tappety kind of noise to it. I am aware that the M40 engine can go tappety and if it is tappets then thats fair enough. The thing is, the noise changes. When sitting idling sometime the noise will go half speed (every other tick) and then stop, sometimes it fades in and out. Sometimes it just gets quieter during normal running.
Now I thought if it were tappets the noise would be constant, is this right? I will put some decent oil in when it comes to it as I am told that may quieten it down. It's just the fact the noise changes, could it be anything else?
Also, I have a nice whooshy kind of sound under reasonable acceleration around 3k revs. As much as I like the noise, my old car didn't have it so I'm guessing it shouldn't be there. Any suggestions? Hose of some kind maybe?
Cheers guys, any input gladly received,
Shuriken.
