sold our first set of E36 318 throttle bodies the other day , thought you guys may want to see some pics of the installation , combined with our own carbon intake .

Installation was not exactly plug and play ....but not too bad .

Car needs fine tuning on dyno but throttle response is crazy ...power figures will be posted soon

Is it true that you can loose a lot of bottom end with aftermarket/performance throttle bodies?

I don't really know a lot about them, it's just something that someone said to me a while back when I considered them for my 5 series :)

Will be interesting to see the power figures :)

I will let you know more when we get the dyno plot . In theory there should be little if any low end loss ..in theory .

As all the M cars use throttle bodies I believe good low end can still be achieved ....

Top stuff :) I'm still learning at the moment, and the first thing I want to do is to work on the inlet and the exhaust system, so I'll keep my eyes peeled on this thread.:D

Thanks again

Is your car E36 ? we have just finished working on one of these , showed +16.4 bhp on dyno , with this lot :

- CA custom intake with chrome piping
- Eisenmann mid level exhaust
-schrick cams
- remap

mild aesthetic upgrades were :

- New leather
- black projector indicators
-black wide grilles
- custom pedals
- ACS replica gearshift
- M tec rep handbrake

power hike may not seem much , but :
1. very hot day today ...always gives low figures
2. she is a totally different car to drive now , far more torquey and responsive, pulls straight to the red and beyond .

I also have a turbo kit for the 318 just sitting here ....:) cost 4k new , has done 7000 miles or so , i will consider taking offers around 1500 pounds for it .

just heard back from the dyno operator and owner regarding the throttle bodied 318 , having now been fully mapped , here is the low down :

- car initially lost a bit low end yes ...this has now been sorted on dyno
- had to retard ignition below 3000 rpm
- had to adjust throttle springs as too stiff initially
- most gains are at top end of rev range
- more throttle response
- + 8.5 bhp AT THE WHEELS !! ( so about 10 -11 bhp crank )
- + 3 LB FT AT THE WHEELS , held at peak for an extra 750 rpm than before
this car now produces 144 bhp AT WHEELS ......NOT BAD FOR A 318 i WOULD SAY .

Other mods we carried out were

- intake
- cams
- custom underdrive pulley
- eisenmann
- dekat

dyno graph will be up soon

Benny, this is 144bhp at the wheels so its now about 165bhp+ or so at the fly. Which aint half bad.Sounds like reasonable gains though, with only a mild setup.

No, first you need an M3 evo engine in there, then you can fit an AA supercharger kit in there.;)

yes , the bhp figures were at the actual wheels

also remember that typically cars come up short of manufacturer power claims as standard .

As example , I have yet to meet a dyno operator who has truly seen over 305 bhp on a E36 M3 Evo , which is rated at 321 bhp ; MANY cars showed well under 300 ....gutting when I first dynod mine :(

Hmm interesting, been thinking about getting this set up for a while now for my 318is,just a few things!

the first pic, with the dbilias TB is a M44 engine, now the white car in the second pic is a 31is with the 1.8 M42, what power figures are you quoting from mate?

the 318is has 140bhp as std at the fly wheel, so it will be less at the wheel, the figures you qoutes was at the wheels, now that is a major inprovemnt that the TB have given, can you 100% confirm that this is the case!

as above 8-9 bhp is a resnable increase and worth the price..IMO

Hi SONNY

Apologies for any confusion , I find myself suddenly surrounded by 318 s

144 at the wheels was te dyno figure for the M44 with throttle bodies etc .

the customer came round today and collected a turbo kit off u sfor evaluation , so I am hoping he will go for it and we will have , I think < Uk 's only turbod 318 is ?? Hopefully the most powerful 318 as well .....will keep you posted .

On the white M42 car is the one that showed + 16.4 bhp on Bosch dyno .

144 is good at the wheels, so whats that at the fly then????

I noticed that the unit is black, so that cleared that last enquiry up then!

so whats the damage all in then mate$$$$$$$

also whats the driving economy like, does it get effected much?

144 equates to approx 175 at the flywheel .

yes it uses a bit more fuel when used hard ...no such thing as free lunch ;)

the costs for these are all on http://www.ca-automotive.co.uk/dbilas-injector-systems.shtml. Unfortunately I can only offer a very small member discount on this brand , about £40 ...sorry .
