Thought I would say hello and introduce myself...

I found this sight as I am getting a 330ci and wanted some info on tuning options etc. Having been on a few bmw boards where I found most people a little bit over competitive shall I say this is where I will probably bug everyone with my annoying obvious questions about 330's and stick around for some banter

I also run a mk3 track day car - pic below for anyone that's interested!!!

Welcome to the forum mate! Nice to see you picked a nice individual username! Lol... Just joking! I'm not really a twat...

Often! :D

Word of warning- cut up any credit cards, freeze all your assets and keep your eyes peeled for creatures such as 'Teddy' and 'Roy'. My money is forever trying to line their pockets.

nice one, bit of a come down after the porche though i would imagine lol. Great sounding engine, one of the best v6's noises going.

Getting very confused by all the different models/specs etc with bmw's!!!!

is a 330ci the same power as a 330ci sport?? I thought ALL 330's were the same output??

cool that clears up the biggest worry. Just don't want to buy one and then find out there is a more powerfull version!!! he he...

Its a toss up between a convertible and a clubsport - had my heart set on the vert until I realised you could get clubsports for the same money

modding is rubbish imo unless it makes the car better to drive/quicker. If i had the choice between running a modded 330 with loads of tat stuck to it or a totally stock M3 I would have the M3 all day long...

but as has already been said its down to personal preference

Mate, looks like you better go for M3 from start them modding 330.

Love these Golfs, always wanted to get one. what have you done to it? suspention/power?

can't afford the running costs of the e46 m3, could afford to buy one but it would be the not very nice one's at the cheaper end, plus the servicing costs and parts costs are too much for me. I have driven a 330 and am happy enough with the performance just wondered if there was any cheapish upgrades but it appears not!!!

As for the 330d - I have heard great things about it. Im am just bored to tears with diesel power delivery, I need petrol and revs in my life again!!!

The golf is basically a standard engine apart from a chip that removes the rev limiter, with upgraded brakes + fluid, all brand new abs sensors, coilovers and some lighter weight bbs wheels bought for peanuts that I refrubed black lol..... apart from the car it has only cost me about £500!!! need some seats (xmas pressie from missus) and it's a goer

I can see from the picture your Golf have Silver calipers up front-are they standard or that sort of BBk?

they are standard calipers, it has the whole VR6 braking set up - 288mm x drilled discs etc. stops really well with all the wieght out of it, still got a lot more weight to strip before im done too!!

yep yep, but I have a work car that I do 25k+ miles a year in, and am bored with diesel now. Driving my golf only makes me realise what I miss!!! went in my managers z4 today - 3.0, is this the same engine that's in the 330??

Well, I done less miles in 3 years then you done on your work car in a year, and I drive everyday. You have a work car + Golf 16v +want to get 330 =it will cost you cheaper to have M3 mate:) How much do you pay for insurance on a golf may I ask?

Add insurance for 330, ;)

Yeah I am selling my work car to make way with for the 330, trouble is doing that sort of mileage - the price of tyre's, discs, pads and servicing really makes a difference as it will all be coming round quite quickly!!!!

For the golf I pay £450 a year - limited mileage cover (5000) TPFT.

I get £5000 a year car allowance from my job, so a 11k 330 will be costing me about £350 a month plus about £150 a month for insurance so will JUST be covered by the allowance meaning all the running costs will be coming out of my pocket. Hence not wanting £700 services that I have heard about the M£
