so after a bit of research and reading around and nearly falloing for those cheap ebay SSKs I finally settled on autosolutions ultimate kit which has everything in it and just check out the quality of the workmanship, its a shame that its all going to be hidden under the car :D
Was going to fit it myself but I just cant be bothered so im having it done on Thursday and im having the clutch delay valve removed as well to finally get the best out the BMW box

its a pretty in depth job apparently at least 3 hours work, all the exhaust and prop have to come off to get to it and my mechanic charges £55 an hour so im imagining with bits and pieces for the clutch valve its going to cost me about £200 to have it fitted. I did only pay £40 for the kit off ebay tho lol :D
Am hoping its going to make a big difference to the fun factor anyway

Its pretty straight forward on the normal non-M E46, but M3 is a pain in the a$%
On M3 though I would have thought it would take 1,5h to change the shifter.
Am hoping its going to make a big difference to the fun factor anyway
It takes a while to get used to it.
It feels different. ;) I just love it

after reading the review on madrussian.com I realised im getting too old to be crawling under cars with only 8-12" of working room and trying to take exhausts and props off so i'll just pay someone to do it lol :D

Yep, this is what I have done when the pin in my short shift had come undone

Just had one fitted to the Turbo yesterday...
Nice thing about the 911 it can all be done, with the car on the ground, and just lifting up the centre console from inside..... ;-)
BMW one is much more of a pain.

which kit did you go for on the 911 mate? I had a GT3 for the day the other week, the throw was about half an inch!
amazing bit of kit that was!

Damn...isn`t that a coincidence!!
I`ve just ordered the same SSK from Ronald of Autosolutions..... :D
Expecting it by next week. Apparently his kits are all hand-made.
Thats a jammy find for £40!!!;)

ive heard different stories about fitting a short shift on an e46 m3? obviously the good part of how awesome the gear changes will be, but the bad points of it not being good for the car.
post some videos or pictures, showing the distance the gear change travels. a before and after would be awesome :D :D

GT3.. hmmm lovely !
I installed a B&M kit. Its really nice, and short. However gone very heavy, and a little noisey, but its changed the way the car feels, much more sporty. ;-)
It should quite down, and get a little softer as time goes by.
I had a ACS one on my 330, and love it ! No problems, and had it on there for 3 years.

Im having the clutch delay valve removed as well, as contrary to BMW's belief people can drive a manual gearbox hard without blowing it up!!
Xkalibar - I can imagine that just adding a short throw lever might prematurely wear the standard counterweight bushes and fixings but this is a complete kit which will take out any play or slop in the linkage system
Although having the SSK on is going to make the gearchanges a bit more fun with a shorter travel the bit that is going to make the biggest diff is removing the CDV thats the mod you want to do!! :D

Well the shortshift kit has now been fitted and the clutch delay valve removed and all I can say is WOW. This is how the m3 should be out the factory!! The throw is now possible about 1" between gears and is notchy in a positive way, you definately know when you are in gear! The fun of driving has just been put back into gear changes, it you love driving and have a manual m3 then I recommend the Autosolutions SSK you will not be disappointed.
All I can say is you SMG boys dont know what you are missing lol
Anyone with a 6mt in the Midlands who want to see the diff of the Autosolutions kit compared with the standard kit then drop me a PM
There is only one downside to this kit, the manual box is well known for being a pig to get into 2nd when its cold, its now even harder and does on occasion require the old double clutch method but this only lasts til the box has warmed up, its not really much of a problem to be fair for the driving fun you now get back

I recommend it mate, the clitch feels lighter and engagement is much smoother, it feels like the power deliver is much better but that is probably just me!

I got the garage to do it mate cos i cant be bothered with crawling under the car on the drive anymore. He had a bit of a struggle with it I think and took him just over 2.5 hours I think. The fitting cost me £112 in all
