Just read on Northloop that the Nurburgring officials/marshalls are trawling the net (youtube in particular) to identify cars that have videoed on the Ring. Once identified they are asked to leave  . This isn't a rumour as one of the people banned for the weekend has posted. So, I guess if your car is easily identifiable and there is a vid on youtube then pull it, at least until we get back ;) .

For those not on Northloop the response from the unfortunate member who was asked to leave is as below :( :

Yea thats me, at home today, with my first asbo :o it appears one of the marshals has been trawling the net trying to identify some of the cars posting videos, well it had to happen, got approached in the car park and was told my car been identified as such,

yea but, yea but, yea but,

sorry no arguments asbo;d for the weekend the fact that the camera was in the holder didn't help much either

Totally my fault two complacent with the whole thing, caught with the pants down, no excuses, at least it was only one weekend could have been worse, I mananged to get 12 laps in so was not a complete waist of time also made some new friends and did a couple of laps with Nige  who incidentally told me to tell you He's having a wonderful time

Also Ed was band for the day apparently as he went through the barrier his student who was behind him followed him though without stopping purely Innocent move by the student, so Ed was band along with his student, Ron was not a happy Bunny as it was restricting his business plus it effected Eds Wages for the day but they would not listen to reason, I deserved what I got, but how unreasonable was that.

That does seem quite harsh to be fair.

Here are a few suggested reasons.

As no reason has been given, various theories have been mooted ...

<TABLE cellSpacing=4 cellPadding=0 width=500 border=0><TBODY><TR vAlign=top><TD>Theory one is that some idiot put video footage of a fatal accident onto the net. While this is not impossible, Ringers are usually pretty good at sniffing out Ring-related material from the web, so it would be very surprising if something so controversial were out there without any of us having heard about it.

Theory two is the more general risk of tabloid journalists - especially television ones - using photos or videos of crash sites to create sensationalist stories. Mike Frison had some of his photos stolen by a tabloid in just this way: none of them showed serious crashes, but the newspaper story gave a very different impression. That's also the reason I removed the Whoops page.

Theory three is that Nurburgring GmbH fears legal action by ambulance-chasing lawyers. The Ring exists in the real world of people being responsible for their own actions and the risks they choose to take, but we increasingly live in a Disneyesque world where everyone wants someone else to blame when anything goes wrong. If someone crashes and a photo or video shows that there was, for example, some water running across the track, a lawyer could argue that Nurburgring GmbH should have put out warning signs, or gone out there with a lot of kitchen towel or something ...

I have no more information than you about which, if any, of these theories are correct. All I can say is that Dr Kafitz has made it known they are serious about the ban. Repeat offenders will be banned from the Ring for the rest of the year.

I hope that guy's footage was better than his spelling, although to be fair he'd have to leave the lens cover on to make it worse.

It was only a matter of time really, they've been asking nicely for years, and insisting moreso recently, for people to leave the cameras in the glove box. People, as usual, flaunted the fact that they weren't co-operating and so they've come down hard. The only annoying thing is that it means that a) people trying to make educational/instructional videos now suffer the same fate, and b) they'll go overboard on some of the other rules while they're at it. It was only a matter of time though, been coming for a long while.

If you look how many accidents occur on tourist days now - and more importantly how many have UK plates - policing the place a bit harder is a good thing in my book.

Fortunately I think all of us approach the ring with the respect it deserves**. It is a dangerous place, people die there far more often than they should - although an individual person can only die once!!!

Too many people drive beyond their cars and more importantly their own capabilities. Too many people ignore warnings - my Dad witnesses a biker ignore flags only to run wide and into the back of a car that had slowed heavily because of an incident.

If you want a magical place that is safe book yourself on a Spa track-day.

**Except for Doc Matt who needed to confirm the reaction times of his roll bars :D

thats well said ken... i agree with you, also what you have to consider is ppl think playing gran tourismo... is exactly like driving on the real track.. what they dont consider is the change in gradient in certain areas can catch experienced racers let alone beginners out....
