managed to pick one up for 600 that was the exact same colour as the car - superb!

Well done mate. Great price, i paid £750 for mine back in April.
If your permenantly fixing the hardtop on for a few months over winter, i'd recommend that you remove the rear locking handles (takes 5 minutes to do with a torx head screwdriver). I've heard that E46 hardtop is easy to steal. Removing the handles makes theft just a little harder!
