I would otherwise in the event of a claim they will reject it because you changed parts and didn't tell them.

I agree with Mark its not worth the risk pal just tell them also try to get like for like some companys will replace parts with O.E.
It is always better to tell them as you are fully covered then. Also, most will not charge a huge premium for declaring mods these days.

Just told them and they want £262 plus an excess increase of £150 per year.
Is that good or bad? I am with directline.

DL are incredibly unfriendly when it comes to mods, they loaded me 20% for alloys alone, then they whined at the end of the year when I told them to shove 3 policies cos I was going elsewhere. Prats.
DL only offer replacement with OE items, but if you buy them yourself and know a local friendly supplier then the invoice and the replacements need not be the same... ;)
But yes, you need to tell them, I've known people who have had insurance claims bounced for both of the first items alone (not from DL, but they all talk to each other anyway so you can bet they share litigators).

That's not that great to be fair. But you make have to take the hit until renewal time if you are definitely planning on installing the mods. At least at renewal you can get with a more mod friendly insurance company. I went through A Plan and paid £391 fully comp with like for like on the mods and all declared. Obviously just because they were good for me doesn't really mean anything but they have been very competitive for others when they have given them a go.

Simple answer is yes or you're the equivalent of driving around uninsured! But seems a bit steep how much they want, my insurance are more worried about significant bhp increase rather than anything else!

i thought it was also expensive, my renewal is next year June so the £262 is just till then.
The alloys is the reason why it went up, without the alloys it's only £30 for the other mods. Not sure what am going to do as i haven't bought the alloys yet.

You wouldnt need to tell them about coilovers. If you read their small print, it often states "as far as you are aware you must declare any modifications", thus if you need to claim and they mention the coilovers, you can shrug your shoulders and say "the previous owner must have put them on"............. After all you're not a mechanic, you cannot be expected to know whether your car was for example previously remapped, heck even the Stealers would have difficulty spotting that.
Especially if you declare other more obvious mods eg body kit, tints, aftermarket alloys etc you can say something like "i'm clearly a responsible individual who declared other mods". And you could always say you'll take your business elsewhere, & in my case that would mean, they could pay out or lose out on a £1300 premium for several years, (carries more weight if you've already been with them a while).
The insurance companies can be negotiated with, if your car is a total write off, they will always offer you less than the value you would expect, you just need to fight them for more.
I speak from experience, my car was involved in an accident resulting in atleast a £2000 bill for the insurance company. Insurance investigator took a look at my car, opened the bonnet and took a few snaps and asked me if the car had any mods...........i'll leave you to guess my answer ;) but he didnt notice my angels, xenons, M3 mirrors or smoked LEDs,and no other inspection for suspension or or engine mods were made. Maybe i was lucky?
Ive told them about my M3 bonnet, M3 front bumper, & will tell them once i get tints and alloys. But i'm condidering a UUC SSK, and if i did, i dont think i'd bother telling them, most of the fools on the phones wouldnt even know what it was! One day you could phone and they'd say £30 extra on another they'd say £60! But i guess at the end of the day its up to you
