Hey Kevster, welcome [hiya
The 2nd gen CCFLs are indeed physically larger than the 1st gen ones. IMO they suit cars without xenon best as the halo rings actually run along the edge of the reflector so from the front, you don't see any reflection of the rings at all when they are turned off. Just like the E39.

HI Kevster
The install is really easily, basically I wired the lights into my existing harness using scotch lock connectors. With the enhanced CCFL there is no need to leave the bulbs hanging in the engine bay to avoid the sidelight warning light on the dash. I orignally fed the wires through my sidelight holes, but later found a neater way. The main light has a rubber gronnet which can be remove. I fed wires through this on the inside of the ring. It gives a great water tight seal. It also means that you can have replace the sidelight bulbs into the housing.

They look nice vaf, I dunno if it's just 'cos the rings are bigger, but they appear thinner or more crisp. Definitely very impressed with them, I did prefer the old ones but I'm not sure now.
Very nice mate,
