Enhanced version has larger rings and groove marks compared to the original kit, silver backing or the so-called 'tape mod' to reduce reflection.
This kit is also available for 2003~ facelift E46 coupe and convertible, and for E39 5 series with original BMW angel eye rings.

Differences are mainly in the colour and the groove marks, you've got to see them in person to really see the differences. I personally prefer the original kit with 'clear protector ring' as they are less visible when off.
you forgot to mention those original kit pictures in the first post have the tape mod done to them [cool. Original still me fav aswell :D. Can you use the new inverters on them?

To really get a comparison of the colour difference think need to see the new types at night.

They both look good just personal preference I think. I can imagine some E46ers would be interested on getting their hands on just the new inverters (whilst keeping their current rings) to stop the warning light issue. Is that possible Teddy? Just a thought for others.. :)

the reworked inverters are not compatible with the first and second kits unfortunately. I'll try to see if I can make them fit. There is no light warning issue on the first and second kit though.

teddy u kno the new gen ones have a silver backing, is that to kinda 2 save doing a eyeball mod thingy mebobber? if so can that be mixed with the first gen?
mysticm3
03-04-2005, 08:07 PM
only the enhanced ones have silver backings the first 2 (original and next gen) do not have silver backings. The wiring looms on the enhanced kit cannot be mixed with the first 2 kits as it's got a reworked inverter.

I've been on BMW car for a while, but feel its is time to add another forum to the list!
I haven't yet done any mods to my car. But there are a few things I fancy, CCFLs being one of them. I'm thinking of the latest versions, as I am not too bothered about being able to see them in the day more than the original ones and I like the idea of lenses being free from reflections.
However I don't have Xenons at the moment and want to change the light units to them at some point. I take it the CCFLs come out as easily as they went in and I will be able to move them onto the next lights?

Welcome [hiya
If you go down the OEM xenon unit route, then you can most definitely transfer the CCFLs. Some aftermarket units come with halos as stnadard and you may encounter mounting difficulties in those.

I was going to try and source some second hand ones from breakers, so they will be OEM. Not sure how easy that would be to get them. I assume enough people write off their E46 and don't damage the light units such that some come up everynow and again...

Theres quite a few BMW breakers around so you maybe in luck. No idea what they charger though. Why not try aftermarket conversion, its usually cheaper.

do the aftermarket ones look the same as OEM, and as Peppernick said might that not cause a problem with the CCFLs?

Ok, first mod, I think I am going to have to get some. I think I'll go for some of the enhanced next generation versions.
Then the list runs-
18 or 19" CSL offset reps (as per BMW car forum thread) - not yet decided on size
CAI kit
M3 electric folding mirrors
eibach springs, dropped depending on which wheels
xenons
oooh! and I'll think of more
oh yeah, and perhaps a few months down the line I really fancy S/C'in :D
oh and I need a cd mulitplayer but am investigating MP3 possibilities, maybe an ipod connection or something, but it needs to be tidy and I think I'd prefer something that links to the steering wheel controls and on screen display.
Why this new found enthusiasm. I got a job offer today, so I might just have some more wonga to play with.

The enhanced version comes in different fitments for cars with or without xenons so if you buy a kit for non xenon they are not transferrable to your new lights. Our 1st and 2nd Gen CCFL are fully comptaible with cars with or without xenon though. They are just as good as the enhanced ones except they don't have the silver backings.

hmm, ok, so do the original and next gen versions now come with a reworked inverter to deal with the dash warning light, or would I still need to get that sorted? (I assume I stick a resistor in the circuit somewhere?)
mysticm3
18-04-2005, 10:09 PM
There is never a dashboard light warning issue (don't know where you get it from), with our kit you should never get dashboard warning light. The new trick is to insert the wires from halo boxes straight into the sidelight base, it appears that the rings have the same level fo resistance as the original sidelight bulbs.
richbe
18-04-2005, 10:34 PM
I was reading the issues that some of the guys were having on the BMW Car forum when they first started fitting them last year. Some were having to leave the side light bulbs hanging in the engine bay in sequence with the CCFLs in order to stop either the indicator lights going on or from warning lights showing on the dash. But you have answered my question which indicates that they do offer the same resistance as the side light bulbs and the bulbs can be removed altogether - much cleaner.
So I'd like to order the original ones and I'll do the tape mod on them.
What should I do go via your SSDD website or PM you on here?
think you miss understood a little bit. The original ones you have to leave your sidelight hanging in the engine bay. Its the Enhanced next gen that your after [ok.

angel eyes on :D
looking good. Still getting side light warning tho.
Teddy two questions- when you said in a previous post that you wired the halos into the side light base, and by that I think you mean the small bracket in which the bulb sits, not the wired bracket attached to the loom. If I am right, how do you get the wires to make a good permanent contact with the metal clips inside? I guess there must be some added resistance within this middle bracket that prevents the dash light from coming on...?
The alternative is to wire in two small resistors to increase ever so slightly current draw and thus extinguish the dash lights that way, question is what resistor do I need? And am I thinking right that this is a possible solution.
Aside from that, thanks for quick delivery. I might send a couple of suggestions to add to the instructions to help people who are taking their lights out for the first time. Once you know how its easy, but there were a couple of wrestling (gentle) matchs required to remove some of the parts until I realised the easy way
I think i'll be ordering some of these as soon as i've woken up properly after a good kip! Was either these or a GPS receiver ;)
If anyone has any good walkthroughs or tips as to how to install the first gens then please feel free to post it here or pm me :)

hi guys,
new member, and very new to all of this.
i am driving a 02 330Ci - just got it last week, and i'm very interested in getting these Halo kits. i had looked into the Jlevi one from the states, but then i seen the post that eventually took me here!
i would appreciate any / all help i can get!
my car has xenons fitted as standard, so i'm after the correct halo's to work with these - i was looking at the user "Nickleback" sig, and his car seems to be the ticket! - he is using enhanced 2nd gen ones - is this correct?
i also like his front indicators - they look all black to match with his headlights... are these available from SSDD also?
sorry for the long winded post, but like i say, i would love to get this simple but effective mod done asap!
thanks again,
Ross

The CCFLs fits all cars with and without xenon. The Gen 1 CCFLs are bluer and the Gen 2 matches the OEM xenon hue better. Alos, the Gen 2 comes with an opague rear backing so you don't get the reflection of the halo rings off the light reflector, giving more defined halo rings. With the Gen 1, you need to tape the back of the rings if you want this effect.
Welcome [cool Get them in the UK, no need to take the risk if importing the same tried and tested products are available here.

Hi Ross & welcome [hiya
You are quite correct, I am using 2nd gen CCFL's supplied by Teddy @ SSDD-Motorsport. :D
The front projector indicators are clear to match the xenons to give the clear front look. Try Teddy again for these if he has got them in stock, if not I got mine from CA Automotive (Roy) our other sponsor on Evotechnik. :D

Right, been looking into these for a while but totally confused by this thread, seems to have got mixed in the last few posts as well. Original posts Teddy says theres:
Original
Next Generation
Enhanced Next Generation.
I'm with big pimp on this, I like the look of nicklebacks CCFLs. He asked if they were enhanced 2nd generation (i.e. enhanced next generation) and NIck and Nickleback replied saying yep 2nd generation - are they next generation or enhanced next generation.
Could someone just clear up once and for all what each type is/does, ie answer the following points for each type:
Type: Original/next gereration/enhanced next generation
Colour:8500k/6500k/7500k
Silver backed: Yes/No
Do you have to keep original bulb in holder inside engine bay: Yes/No
Sets off dash warning light: Yes/No
Compatable with OEM xenons: Yes/No

Whiter = 2nd gen, period. The enhanced is just the tape mod done for you, which reduces reflection in the main beam unit from the back of the halo. Whether that bothers you or not only you can answer. :) Then get some 5-6k bulbs to match the look of the halos, Teddy can supply both.

welcome to the forum.
fitting angel eyes to facelift coupe is a bit more involving, you need to remove the headlights, use a heatgun to split open the lenses, then fit the rings inside. we can offer this service if required but DIY is also possible as a very detailed guide is provided with the kit.
as far as technology goes, it is not possible to make a 100% cicular ring at the moment. there needs to be a place where wires can come out and there will always be a gap. We have designed a metal plate to cover this area - pictures below:
http://www.ssdd-motorsport.com/images/products/238-3.pjpeg
http://www.ssdd-motorsport.com/images/products/238-2.pjpeg
more details here:
http://www.ssdd-motorsport.com/show_prod.php?prod_id=238
if you need more clear pictures feel free to send me an e-mail and I'll forward higher res ones to you.
thanks
