Hi,

My mate is getting his new Diesel Astra 1.9 chipped, Chipped UK said he can gain an extra 45bhp out of it, not bad.

I was going to go up there with him but not sure if i should take mine and get mine done.

I have a E36 318i (97) it's done 150,000 miles. Do you think it's worth it? and will it ruin my engine as its done so many miles?

Honest opinions would be appreciated.

Thanks

You'll get way way less out of yours than your mate will out of a turbo diesel. Honestly, I'm not sure I'd bother with a 1.8 unless it's running a bit flat or lumpy, but it's your call and does depend on the price. It shouldn't ever ruin your engine though, just your wallet. ;)

I've not used ChippedUK myself. He's had some bad press, but I can't vouch for whether it was deserved or not so I won't comment on it, but he's certainly done a few BMWs. I had my last two cars mapped through Teddy and through Roy, both of which gave me noticeable benefits, the latter of which was probably the best map I've ever had (albeit on the car with the most power, which helps).

How much do Teddy and Roy charge? Chipped UK said £275? That good? i wouldn't know.

Oh and do Teddy/Roy just do BM's?

That's ballpark, yeah. Probably slightly on the cheaper side in fact.

Can't remember how much I paid for either of the maps, but they're under constant improvement anyway, so best to ask them direct for a price. Not sure if they just do BMs, wouldn't have thought so, but I'll know soon cos I'm gonna be asking about getting the Golf done after this morning's drive reminded me how much pokier it could be. :)

Jay (ChippedUK) has done my car, and a number of those from the 5er forum - along with a large number or my mates. Had some good rolling road proven gains too - he's always been helpful and done as much as possible for us so I cant complain.

When Jay first started, he did have just a few tools, mainly a laptop and some German data.

Now he has his unit, he has built up a collection of expensive computers, machines and monitors, including a 100k rolling road :D

Myself and friends have used him and I can recommend him :)

Knock him down 30 squid for cash, he won't say no ;)

Jay is very good on his pricing, especially if you're a repeat customer or are sending a few people his way :)

I've heard some very debatable things about "chiiped uk", but no personal dealings. However, I do know a number who have and don't speak very highly of his products. Mainly spurious power claims from what I understand and some "inventive" dyno results. Worth treading with care I think, I would ask Roy (and Teddy - didn't realise he did maps) first and see what their prices are like, 'cos from what I understand, you'll get a better job from them.

There was a serious problem with Chipped UK in Ireland. Claims were high but never delivered. One of the chipped cars actually lost power. Chipped UK would not give a refund and the map put to original. Chipped UK actually flew over(maybe it was Jay, can't remeber).

I have even heard he is banned from a few forums because of this. I never did get my car chipped so this is all word of mouth stuff.

Scary to say the least.

Jay did my car for me at bimmerflex. Seem like a nice bloke and the car seems to be better since it's been remapped. Thats all i can say really

Hi there,
I just thought i would put my point accross.

I do feel that the only issues ive had have been to argue with a few people, i dont think my work is actually in question.
I dont like people using my dyno results as proof of our gains, i much prefer indipendant dyno results as this gives value to our work and product.
It also stops the question of wether or not our runs are accurate etc etc.

This is why i like the runs done at places like gforce, power engineering, etc etc where we have continuously achieved the highest power from our work.
Likewise on the 1/4 mile days this year i think we had almost all of the best times from cars we had mapped.

Im more than happy to accept critisism for my argumentative skills but think it unfair for my work.

In truth we have invested heavilly in the best equipment, over £1m and are moving into an 8000sqft workshop to be able to ofer even greater flexibility and customer support.

We have over 50 staff across the country and are continously keeping ahead of the game with recent contracts including the partnerships of Chipped UK LTD with OBD Tuning and Dimmensione Sport, the Worlds 2 leading tuning companies.

We have achieved total TUV approval and acceptance by 2 UK insurance companies.

This post isnt about blowing my own trumpet but explaining some facts i feel should be put into the equasion.

Jayson.

Out of interest, why?

It's between the founders of this site. It's not up for discussion

So now people aren't allowed to express their side of things when negative things are being said about their livelyhood? Still, its not my beef so I'll leave you guys to it.

So you have years of history with him do you? No? Didn't think so.

And you know the answer to that how? I've been dealing with Jay for the last 3 years personally and via the 5 series forum I run...

Still, this will just go round in circles, so I'm leaving it here. Nuff said.
