Yup Big time.
Driving like a Dick wad! :(
Traffic police pull me up and ask if I want to see some footage of me doing 84 in a 40.. ( His camera must need re-calibrating sp as I swore I was doing about 90 :D :D The nice cop then points out that it's 6 points and a instant ban + Fine. The give me the B test and all clear. :D
So I'm standing there freezing thinking o crap..pants down time :D
They ask for my licence which I had in the glove as I had just photocopied it at the office, as I'm due in court next week for ..............speeding! :( :D
A long story Cut short.. The nice cop compliments me on how nice the car looks and how clean it is... then says stop driving like a twat and tells me to get home.
I tell ya I wanted to hug him right there on the spot...but I thought that the other Kop might get jealous so I got in the motor and drove sensibly home...
Moral of this story....take it easy and be nice to them lovely police officers...

This is why speed cameras are such a bad idea, at least when you are dealing with a human being they can be reasonable and take all the circumstances into consideration.

We have a lot of contact the the Police in our job,and like every walk of
life there is good and bad.I would say that you are extremely lucky to get
away with double the speed limit with no more than a slapped wrist

Was you in Kent? And if so where abouts mate?
You was damn lucky. I was caught on the M2, again driving like a knob as I got the old red mist when a maxed up pug 306 wouldn't leave my bumper so instead of doing the sensible thing (that I would do now) and pull over I dropped several gears and gunned it - straight passed an unmarked copper that initially couldn't keep up, waaayyyyy into three figures. Lord knows how but I was only done for 98.34 over 0.8 mile. Got a fixed penalty, I have never sucked up like that before. As Fas says, there are some good ones out there who don't want to ruin your life, just make it safer.

Coorrr youre very lucky mate!!
Just go carefull next time! Last thing you want is no license.
Bet youre well chuffed though, lucky lucky lucky man! :)
I really don't know how you got away with that. That must be the only copper in the country who would let you do over twice the speed limit and just tell you to be more careful.

Over twice the limit  your are a c**k and should have got a ban, i think it's pretty disgusting that your all cocky about getting away with it, it's obviously 40 for a reason, but 84-90
If someone ran out in front of you or someone pulled out on you not expecting you to be doing twice the limit what chance have they got, if you want to drive like that and kill yourself, fine, but think about other people because i would put money on you walking away and them not.

Calm down kid. I think the police who were actually on the scene may POSSIBLY have better judgment than someone sitting behind his computer screen. Were you there? Were you there taking into account the road condition, traffic profile, number of pedestrians etc. etc. etc?
He's admitted he was a twat and you unleashing both-barrels makes you come across as a keyboard warrior.

Fas,
I thought this forum was open to views, thats my view, more than twice the limit is reckless and dangerous regardless of road conditions etc etc, so why not be able to say what i think. If he wants to kill himself, go ahead, it's other people im bothered about.
Keyboard warrior, far from it, it's wrong to do that and you all know it is, he admitted to being a t**t, yes he did, but i'll put you in touch with the family i know who used to have a 40 year old uncle who was going about his business one night until he got spread over 300 yards of a 40 mph road by an idiot doing over 70mph . That was 3 years ago and things still arent right for them, so just think about it, there's no need to do it, keep it for the track.
But Fas - points noted.

I can (literally) wheel out 20 people I know who have been the cause or victim of reckless roadcraft. That's not the point.
You're entitled to your opinion, but I'm having to spoon feed you the obvious. We read every day about how the traffic police are clamping down on the "innocent" and "not-so innocent" motorists. We hear today of an incident concerning a driver going over the limit and the POLICE dealing with it in what THEY feel was the most appropriate way.
Was he near a school? Was it in a built up area? Was it wet / icy? Was it pitch black? Was there lots of traffic? These are questions neither YOU nor I know the answer to, so again, the police did their duty and handled the situation as they see fit.
Carry on preaching.

What Fas has already said! +
I'm not being cocky, Far from it! I was Cut up by a Micra, which made me speed the way I did! I know not clever but as Paul said earlier in the thread, I saw Red mist! The cop said that if I was not speeding he would have pulled the knob in the Micra!
The conditions where dry, it was a dual carriage way, 1 possibly 2 other cars on the road and it was 00:30 in the morning! We all know someone that has died in a car accident so don't preach to me dip sh*t!!!!.
The reason I posted is because!
1, I wanted people to watch there speed! Unlike me :(
2, All cops are not bad!

That kind of remark winds me up more than any other. If someone runs out in front of me its their damn fault. The road is there for cars, pavement for padestrians. If someone can't be bothered to look when they cross the road then its their own fault.
I got stopped a while ago by a police woman and she tried using that same arguement. I pointed out to her that i had in fact had it happen to me (granny and kid pushing his bike cross duel carriage way, don't look, didn't see me on my bike and i wipe out kid and bike). I then asked the copper to explain how i got paid out from the kids parents insurance policy for damage to my bike and injuries to me if it was my fault. She didn't have an answer and got back in her crappy police car.
Sorry for the rant:mad: but heard this crap too many times before

Hold up Einstein - you're the one tarring everyone with the same brush. 3 people disagree with you and suddenly they're representative of all BMW drivers? I don't get a say of my own then? What an ignorant thing to say, but hey don't let me stop you, go buy a fucking Volvo if it'll make you feel better about yourself. Although then obviously you'll have to buy a caravan, right, cos all volvo drivers have caravans don't they?

hence 2 jammers on the front of my car, one hooked in to the b2 and one freestanding!
i also have one to get fitted to the back when i can work out where to put the head unit!

Now then, the post I was going to make..
I had a kid ride out in front of me on the way back from an exam one day in Cambridge. I was doing precisely 40 in a 40, I was totally in 'good boy' mode as I was still suffering from the nerves of the exam and wasn't anywhere close to being in the mood for driving 50 miles home, and bang he rode out from nowhere straight into my path. I didn't even have time to brake, and I have very quick reflexes. He cracked my windscreen (with his head as it later transpired), totalled the entire nearside of my car with his body and his bike, and mashed his face to a pulp. I had to look at that kid, who was 12 years old, for 10 minutes while the ambulance arrived from Addenbrookes, I had to tell him he'd be ok despite there being blood everywhere, and I had to watch his mum turn up seconds after the ambulance (one of his mates had called his home) and see/hear her reaction. I had a red car, and it was only when I got home that I'd calmed down enough to have a proper look at the damage, and noticed the 2 different shades of red down the whole side of the car. I was sick on the driveway. :( And I'd done nothing wrong - far from it, I'd been the model driver but subjected to all of that mental anguish and images that I can remember even now, 8 years on.
Why share that? Cos my point is that you can be doing nothing wrong and still suffer the same result, or you can be doing everything wrong and not suffer at all. If I'd been going at 60 I'd have been past him before he shot out into the road. Does that make it right? Nope. But it proves that hindsight is immeasurably valuable when you're criticising the actions of yourself or others. I'm often glad when I think about that event that I was in no way in the wrong, cos the guilt I would have felt from having been so would be horrible.
That's my motivation to never speed in urban areas. That and thinking about my own daughter stepping out in front of me. Of my mates' lovely kids being in the wrong place at the wrong time. Sometimes I forget, then I catch myself and sort it out, it's just something I need to do for my own peace of mind, but I'd recommend it to others, guilt is a horrible horrible thing to have to live with, even worse than the actual damage caused by something happening itself, far longer-lasting and way more self-destructive than just driving a little bit slower.
Speeding isn't clever, but we all do it, and it's refreshing to find a sensible traffic cop who takes that approach and adopts a view that will have a longer-lasting effect than just "the fkin bizzies gave me a fine and a ban" - personally I think you'll remember that message better and it'll help in future. Fair play to your for the honest post though, and fair play to the copper concerned for taking a forward-thinking approach. Both of those are, in my humble opinion, 'good things'.
Edit: Sorry, that turned into another Chaos Essay :(, it wasn't meant to be, it's just a subject close to my heart for obvious reasons.

definetely, back when i was 18 i got caught doing 90 in a 40 zone, i was stopped and the copper gave me the harshest of talkings to with no further charges. now i understand where it is safe to speed and not to speed.
certain dual carraigeways with a 40mph limt are a little unreasonably slow, for example anyone who uses the A40 coming out of London in the dead of night, 80mph in the 40 (after hangar lane) is really not unsafe or dangerous in any way or form.
so what im tryin to say in this rant is, speed does not kill/harm. dangerous driving (which can include speeding) is the problem.
the solution is education just like that copper gave me one cold 3am morning.
PS. there are plenty of good coppers, yes i have been stopped for no reason but they have always been very polite
Gah the a40 is somewhere I definitely go faster than I should too. About that speed myself tbh.
I mean it should really be national speed limit between hangar > polish really... No reason why not...

no it should be 40mph during peak times, traffic is v heavy flowing and better slow and steady i think
but at night, bit faster i think:rolleyes:

Spot on mate. When I was stopped I was utterly paping my undercrackers as I was over 130 when I buzzed the cop car. So, when i saw the blues i knew it was for me and was fully waiting to be informed that I would be done for excess speed and dangerous driving. i actually had images of the clink in the back of my mind.
That 3 points and £60 fine has actually saved my license and changed the way i drive. I was one of very few people to still have a clean license and almost think I was invincible but what a wake up call.
I think that we have all learned a lesson.
