The M3 will be stored away this saturday for around 3 to 4 months in granparents garage (massive, empty, they never use it :) )

Its pretty filthy so will get my valeting guy to do a wash, vacumm and a quick coat of wax.

Hardtop will be fitted.

Is there a good way to do this like for example to leave window(s) open a centimetre to keep cabin area fresh or shall I disconnect the battery. Is it an old wives tale about getting flat spots on the tyres from sitting on the same spot for ages?

I haven't got a proper car cover, I have a brand new tarpaulin but its plastic, still soft ish, or should I just get a nice huge soft king size bed sheet perhaps?

What would you do?

:D

PS garage is completely safe, not a problem with the windows etc

I have bought a nice cover from BMW for my car it set me back around 100 GBP , I tried buying the a cheaper version for my coupe and it ruined the paints with small surface scratches , the BMW one is very light, good , and dust doesn't stick to it . Why are you not using it for 3 months anyway?

:D :D :D classic.

I have heard that you should sell me your exhaust before you store it!

Seriously I would leave the windows open a bit and empty any petrol.

Never had to do this so I can't really help apart from the usual stuff as mentioned. I would buy a cover from BM though if they are only like £100.

Don't leave the windows open! with the damp in the air you will return to your car and the seats will be covered in mould!

Sorry to hear your having to store mate , my dad porka is in the garage months at a time , windows up , fuel in , never moves and thats always fine , hte only problem he ever did have was then he washed it , put it away for 4 month , when he came to move it , it just wouldnt move , brakes ceased, 4 new discs & 4 sets of pads as they were seriosuly warped!

Best Regards,
Paul

I'd personally leave it with very little fuel in it. Over a peroid of time the petrol starts to separate. The thought of draining a tank of fuel doesn't sound like fun ;)

Run it looooow imo, park it with the hand brake off and DONT wash it just before you put it away (I made this mistake and a passenger caliper seized :()

You're supposed to leave a totally full tank so there's no space for condensation to form. Don't use a plastic cover, you need to use somehting that breaths so the paint doesn't get damaged. Small bubbles appear where moisture sits and can't get out of the cover.
You're supposed pump the tyres up quite high so it allows for some to be lost over the period of months.
I'd have a look on a classic car forum where people do this sort of thing all the time.

you can buy covers that you drive the car into and keeps warm air inside may be worth while buying one matt you could always sell after you have used it hope you get the car sorted soon

Also might be worth leaving the hard top off so the hood is not being stored folded...

Might also be worth telling your insurance company that the car will be OTR. You never know you might get a rebate...

Like bennyboy said - ide take the HT off & use the soft top so the roof doesnt have fold marks.
