It has to be hardtop due to some GHEY EU regulation.
still i suppose i could go buy the Peugout 307 hardtop, probably looks better than the E92 and cheaper.

That rear quarter does look pretty bad :( My neighbour has a 206cc with a two part folding roof, when that goes down, the boot space is cramped, that BMW has 3 pieces which means the boot is completely down the toilet, which is a shame as my current vert is EXTREMELY practical, 4 usable seats and enough luggage space to take the family away for long weekends. Ah well. One step closer to a Stuttgart order

I think overall the shape is nice but IMHO doesn't work is the amount of shutlines. The way the boot shutline has changed just looks wrong against the swageline (the flame surface thing) that runs fromt to back. The elegant vert is now a mishmash of shutlines and angles, just not in the same league as an E46. The E92 coupe looks far less busy than the vert.

Saw the new BM coupe on the road yesterday and boy did that thing make my car look dated. It looked hot. Not sure about the 'vert but then I wouldn't be looking to get one.
im not too sure thats a folding hardtop. that first large roof panel and the rear window look too big to fit into the boot area.

It doesn't provoke the same "I want one!" response as the e46 Cab did for me...will wait till I see one in the flesh with the Sport spec.
I wonder if BMW will try out a targa roof on the e92

looks like folding hardtop to me, it's got 2 lines above the b and c pillars

yeah all the lines suggest its a folding hardtop in the style of the VW Eos, ie split roof section but i just dont see how the first roof piece and rear window are going to fit in the boot

Seems highly unlikely when you consider the number of convertibles on the market, including the previous E46 Cabriolet, CLK, etc. More liekly BMW are just following the trend for Coupe Convertibles, despite the fact nobody has yet figured out how to make one look pretty...i.e
More panels = shorter rear end but more shutlines
Less panels = cleaner lines but big arse to store the roof
The boot shutline just never looks right to me

No it has been said before that car desgins when registered after a certain date have to obey the rule pack of that time , so when the E46 came out it was ok for soft tops

Obviously, but soft tops are not now banned. What about the new MX5 thats just been launched with hard top and soft top options? TVRs? New Jag XK Convertible? AM V8 Convertible? Bentley Continental GTC?
Convertibles are perfectly safe, the rise of the CC is due to their popularity as an all year round car and improving technology. Does anyone remember the advert with the E36 Cabrio balancing on the windscreen fram of another E36 Convertible...
