Hi All, I have a slight prob wiv my car, i have a 318ci on a 2000 plate, basically i started the car this morning at the revs were over 1000rpm but below 2000rpm, after driving it a while every time i took the car out of gear the revs would drop between 500rpm and 1000rpm and kept hunting.
Any ideas on what it could be guys?
Thanks in advance!

Sounds like air idle problem, check the ICV or MAF, whicever your car has. MAF I believe on that car.
Part of the air intake tubing goes through a sensor with a electrical wire connected to it.. obviously.
If you look at this pic you can just about make it out, I think its the bit the engine side of the blue band:

Try unplugging the cable and started the car, see if it still hunts for idle. If it doesn't then you should try cleaning your MAF out. A more experience E46 owner will be able to tell you how to do that.
Hope that helps. :)

I just had to replace the camshaft sensor for a similiar problem,
the car didn't like idling first thing in the morning, but its fine now.
As Sam said it could also be the MAF sensor, try cleaning it first
as it is about £150 to replace.
